In June 2015, Governor Greg Abbott signed the campus-carry bill into law, which allows gun owners to carry concealed weapons on school campuses in the state.  The law, which affects colleges throughout Texas, went into effect on August 1st.

The controversial measure has not been met without resistance.  One university dean and at least three faculty members have resigned as a direct result of the new law.  Additionally, the law has prompted some university faculty members to sue to block the law and it has inspired a number of protests throughout the state.

One of the more unique protests of campus-carry launches today (08/24/2016) at the University of Texas - Austin.  Dubbed "Cocks Not Glocks", organizers will be handing out phalluses on campus and encouraging students and teachers to bring them to class and display them proudly.

The protest mocks the fact that while guns are now allowed in classrooms, Texas maintains a law that prohibits "free sexual expression" on campus.  Texas law makes it a misdemeanor to "openly brandish or distribute objects that portray the human genitalia in turgid form."

The organizers of the protest are also encouraging students on other campuses across the state to take inspiration and start their own movement.

Ahead of the launch date, more than 10,000 people have expressed support for the "Cocks Not Glocks" protest by RSVPing for the event.

Student organizers have about 5,000 dildos to pass out today, most of them donated by adult toy manufacturers and distributors nationwide.  As the donations began to flood in, this did create an unforeseen problems for organizers:  where to store them.

A local sex-toy shop stepped up and allowed the group to use their warehouse.

Thus far, at time of writing, no incidents on campus have been reported as a result of the protest.  You can read more about the event here.
