Cinco de Mayo commemorates the Mexican army’s 1862 victory over France at the Battle of Puebla. While it is a relatively minor holiday in Mexico, in the United States Cinco de Mayo has evolved into a celebration of Mexican culture and heritage. Cinco de Mayo is celebrated with parades, festivals, music, and lots of drinking. We did some research and found where the biggest and best Cinco de Mayo parties are happening this weekend!

Longview’s 16th annual Cinco de Mayo Celebration

Longview

 

Paisanos of East Texas hosts activities such as Miss Cinco de Mayo Pageant, great authentic food, low rider/antique car show, Mexican culture dancers, live bands & children’s activities. The cost is 1 canned good as a donation or $1 during the day and then $20 for the evening event.

Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center

Athens

 

The annual Cinco de Mayo celebration at the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. May 5. The event will feature performances of traditional Mexican dances in the Hart-Morris Conservation Center, performances from local schools, a salsa contest, bird displays and more.
