More Wintry Weather Expected This Week Throughout East Texas

KLTV 7 Meteorologist Grant Dade says we have a good chance of seeing more of what we did this morning through a good part of the week. This morning (Jan. 14) a mixture of rain, sleet and snow was reported across most of East Texas as a disturbance moved into the area. It contained just enough moisture to squeeze out the light precipitation we saw this morning. Grant says more of the same can be expected though Thursday!

The FCC and FEMA have been working on a system to notify the general public of imminent threats to life or property in your area. This system is ready to go now and you will begin to receive the messages on your cell phone as early as this month. The message is called a WEA, or Wireless Emergency Alert. Tornado warnings, flash flood warnings and several other high-end warnings will go direct to wireless users in an affected county automatically if their device is compatible.

Severe Weather Outlook for Today

 

Update 1:30 p.m.
The National Weather Service says the threat for large hail and tornadoes is now less than it looked yesterday, but is still not gone completely. It appears now the greatest threat is going to be from winds in excess of 70 mph.
