It's great to see that abundance of talent here in East Texas! Last night I was asked to be a judge for Brook Hill's Lower School, A Night To Shine Your Light talent show where there was no shortage of talent! The talent show featured kids from kindergarten to fifth grade showing off all kinds of talent. These were some pretty brave kids too, they had no apparent stage fright because once their name was called they walked right up on stage and started performing. Kevin Pierce, the lower school music director, had the task to narrow the field of contestants from 57 down to the 26 acts that I would be judging along with KETK's Cara Prichard and Brook Hill School's founder Steve Dement.

The night started with the youngest kids belting out song after song, while one showed off their Tae Kwon Do skills and another playing the piano! The next two divisions featured more singing, a tap dance, piano with vocals, ukulele with vocals, dance, original poetry and a magic act!

Judging was difficult because all of these acts deserved to win! Now I know how Howie Mandel, Mel B, Heidi Klum and Simon Cowell feel sitting behind the judges table on America's Got Talent! Everyone was a winner at the end of the night, each participant received a honorary participation medal and first, second and third got to choose from a very cool pool of prizes!

Watch out America's Got Talent, one of these kids could be hitting up the audition line soon!
