Given his recent health issues – including his status as a lifelong diabetic and the life-threatening stretch in 2010 where he endured an appendectomy, a brain hemorrhage and discovered a hole in his heart- Poison frontman Bret Michaels has been selected to give the keynote speech at a conference for the Diversity Alliance for Science on May 22 in Newark, N.J.

Since the singer and guitarist (and not to mention onetime ‘Celebrity Apprentice’ winner) has dealt with so many medical maladies over the years and through his life, he certainly can offer a unique perspective on the medical field, which therefore renders him an appropriate choice to deliver the speech.

Michaels, who is a dedicated diabetes advocate and serves as the spokesman for National Diabetes Month, will give the speech about his experiences with the medical profession for the non-profit organization which serves, supports and mentors minority, women, disabled, small disadvantaged, HUBZone, veteran, service-disabled veteran, and LGBT-owned, and small businesses in the Life Sciences.

The medical community has a friend and an ally in Bret Michaels.
