It’s official! Legendary metal pioneers Black Sabbath have just announced that the original lineup — Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward — have reunited. The band plans to release a new album in 2012 produced by Rick Rubin, with a major world tour to follow.

Today, 11/11/11, is a day that will be remembered throughout metal history. As well as the date serving as VH1′s National Metal Day, it marks the return of the original lineup of the band who created the metal genre. Black Sabbath are back and ready to once again sell their souls for rock ‘n’ roll.

At 11:11AM PT, the band announced via a press conference from the iconic Whisky A Go Go, where Sabbath played their very first Los Angeles gig 41 years ago, that the band will record a new album 33 years in the making. It will be the first full-length album featuring each founding member since 1978′s ‘Never Say Die!’ Rick Rubin, who has produced a seemingly endless amount of landmark albums, will man the boards for the album. An exact release date has not been set as of yet.

Black Sabbath will also embark on a major 2012 world tour, including a headlining spot at the 2012 Download Festival taking place June 8-10 in England. No other dates have been announced thus far.

Metal fans rejoice! For our heavy metal saviors have returned to grace us with their timeless music.
