Best Food Found at the East Texas State Fair
The East Texas State Fair is going on right now at the fair grounds on Front Street in Tyler. While most people go for the rides, showcases, and even the entertainment - there is one thing there that keeps bringing me back every year. No it isn't the ferris wheel or the petting zoo, it's the food. All of the deep fried, fattening, unhealthy as unhealthy can be, delicious food.
The worst part is that there are so many options there is no possible way to try it all. So instead of wasting your time, money, and room in your stomach for something that just doesn't live up to par; here is a list of what I consider to be the best foods at the fair.
Foot Long Corn Dog- grab one of these bad boys and smother it with ketchup and mustard, and you'll be set.
Texas Twister- this is a drink made right in front of you with fresh lemons, limes, oranges, mixed with sprite that will send your taste buds to taste-bud heaven.
Funnel Cake - Does this even need a description? Is it possible to go to the fair and not get a funnel cake? Fried dough smothered in powdered sugar, and even more if you ask, is just too much to even think about.
Fried Pickle Slices - These are definitely my favorite thing at the fair. They aren't the round, sliced fried pickles that come in a basket. They are five slices that are fried, and they are the best thing I have ever eaten.
Zemer's Homemade Root Beer- I have gone to the fair every year since I can remember and this drink is my absolute favorite thing about the fair. They make it right in front of you, so you get a glass of fresh, homemade root beer. You won't know what hit you.
Deep Fried Oreos - Oreo's alone are amazing, but deep friend oreos? Can you imagine all of the unhealthy, fried, chocolaty goodness?
"The Pie Ladies" Homemade Pie - The ladies at Trinity Lutheran Church make and sell their homemade pie, and by golly it is fantastic. They have buttermilk, coconut, chocolate and more. This isn't your typical fair food but it's too good to miss out on.
Turkey Leg - Does this really even need a definition? A big ol' turkey leg that just falls apart in your mouth is enough to get anyone to the fair. My mouth is watering just thinking about it.
