Now, as huge fan myself, I was pretty pumped when I heard that the Beastie Boys were announced as one of the 2012 inductees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The trio is only the third hip-hop group to make the cut, following Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five’s induction in 2007 and Run-D.M.C.’s in 2009. Other acts honored this year include rock groups Red Hot Chili Peppers, Guns ‘N Roses and ‘60s singer Donovan.

Of course, after all these years, the Beasties are hardly 'boys'.  Artists only become eligible for Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nomination, after their first record has been out for 25 years. The Beastie Boys’ debut album Licensed to Ill was released in 1986, giving it the quarter-century stamp necessary for qualification.

It's been a busy year indeed for the Boys, who finally dropped the long-awaited album Hot Sauce Committee Part Two and debuted the short film, "Fight For Your Right Revisited," at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival. The group has said that they're looking forward to recording a new album and touring once member Adam Yauch makes an expected full recovery from salivary gland cancer.

Oh, and if you're in the mood for a little nostalgia, check out both the original and the new anniversary videos for 'Fight for Your Right'.
