There is a lot of talk going around about the gun control laws and what our Second Amendment world will look like in the future. Part of this argument is about the average citizen's right to own an assault rifle. A picture of an assault rifle nail gun has been flooding Facebook. It is not real, but what if it was?

What if an assault rifle nail gun was being produced by a company like DeWalt? What would our construction sites look like? Would this be a loop hole to some of the proposed gun control laws?

Checking my Facebook, I have noticed that every day more and more posts are made about gun control. Some are fighting for their Second Amendment rights. Some are in favor of the new regulations. Either side has become, honestly, a little too much. There is too much information roaming around. A thousand voices are all screaming their opinions. But, through this fog of controversy and fighting I found something absolutely amazing.

A friend shared a link to an assault rifle nail gun that boasted its block buster action movie building skills and that it could be the way around the government's suggested changes to our gun rights. For me, just the idea of fixing a loose board with this true power tool sounds like too much fun to pass up.

"Dewalts answer to home protection that doesn't require a registration or license. This nail gun can shoot a 16-D nail through a 2x4 at 200 yards and incase of a home invasion well you can NAIL THEIR ASS to the wall. Im not saying it wont kill the perp but they wont get away. You can also help build a friends fence 2 blocks away while sitting in your front lawn. This is truly how you adapt and overcome so Thanks Dewalt."

This is what appeared on my screen this week among the other memes and comments on the current firearms turbulence. Seems like the perfect Father's Day present for hundreds, if not thousands, of American dads.

So, know we know that what the Facebook posts about this nail gun are un true. This is just a super cool looking assault rifle. If any laws pass taking away the right to own a rifle like it, it will disappear with all the others. But, what if it was real?

Imagine passing by a construction site, like the sites we have seen around the hospital area here in Tyler. Instead of only a slightly noisy scene, there are endless booms and bangs. It will be near the same noise level of a battle scene. A line of construction workers will surround a wall in a military formation all aimed and ready to go. Like that of a firing squad they will unleash the endless numbers of nails at their foreman's order.

At home, the tool box will be made more like a gun cabinet. Your screw drivers, edge grinders, and assault rifle nail gun will be behind lock and key. Helping dad out with some of his "honey do's" will no longer look as innocent. Instead, it will look like the father and son hunting trips. But, now the prey will be a balcony post that came loose.

The shooting range will just be a line of wooden boards with painted targets instead of the old fashioned slips of paper suspended from the ceiling. You could protect your home from intruders by nailing them to the wall. Gangs, murders, and hunters will swamp to the local hardware store for their ammo. Home Depot and Lowe's will be sold out of nails for the first few weeks of this nail gun's sales. This will make for a black market of nails.

The government might feel that things are getting out of hand and begin to put regulations on the sale of tools. The self check lane of Walmart will print out endless forms for the shopper to complete before they can walk out the door with their new high powered nail gun. Factions would rise up to support or to protest this previously innocent tool. And soon, Facebook will again be overwhelmed with opinions, memes, and facts about the situation. Then, something new will be invented to get around the set controls for the nail gun.

Maybe I am going too far. But, isn't it interesting to imagine the world with assault rifle nail guns. Not too much would really be that different, yet the world would be completely changed.  Will this assault rifle nail gun become a real thing? Will this be the way that people step out of the way of the laws if they are passed?

We cannot tell what the future will hold, but we can live in a day dream full of construction projects that are done at the speed of light because of the world's first awesomely automatic tool. So, what do you think?
