A lawyer for Ginger White, the woman who said she had a lengthy affair with Herman Cain, says he's trying to obtain additional cell phone records. Cain's own attorney, Lin Wood, is requesting those records and other documents so that Cain and his team can examine them. Cain has said he will decide in the next 'few days" whether to abandon his White House bid -- but not before he meets with his wife.

 

Federal officials say the Arctic region has changed dramatically in the past five years — for the worse. It's melting at a near record pace, and it's darkening and absorbing too much of the sun's heat.

A new report card from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration gives the polar region close to failing grades. It faults both global warming and recent localized weather shifts.

 

Retail gasoline prices have dropped 6 cents this week across Texas.

Triple-A Texas on Thursday reported the average price at the pump was $3.11 per gallon.

The association says nationwide gasoline prices are also down 6 cents, to settle at an average $3.29. Amarillo has the most expensive gasoline statewide, at $3.18 a gallon. El Paso and Corpus Christi have the least expensive gasoline in the latest survey, at $3.04 per gallon.

 

"The Boss" is coming to Austin for next year's South by Southwest music festival. Bruce Springsteen will be the keynote speaker at the Austin Convention Center on March 15th. South by Southwest begins on March 9th.

 

Al-Qaida leader Ayman al-Zawahri says the group is holding an American aid expert kidnapped three months ago in Pakistan. Al-Zawahri said in a video message Thursday that Warren Weinstein would be released if the United States stopped airstrikes in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

The video was posted on militant websites and released Thursday by SITE, a group that monitors militant activity. Weinstein was abducted by armed men from his house in the eastern city of Lahore on Aug. 13. Police and U.S. officials have not publicly said who they believe to be holding him.

 

A woman is in critical condition at a Houston hospital after authorities say her husband shot her three times before killing their four children. Police say Laura Gonzalez and the children were shot Wednesday near their home in Bay City. Authorities say Gonzalez's husband, 24-year-old Jose Avila, turned the gun on himself after the shootings.

 

Honda announces global recall for air-bag problems

Honda Motor Co. is recalling 304,000 vehicles globally for air-bags that may inflate with too much pressure in a crash, resulting in possible injuries or deaths.

Honda said there have been 20 accidents so far related to this problem, including two deaths in the U.S. in 2009.

The Japanese automaker announced the recall Friday, which affects the Accord, Civic, Odyssey, Pilot, CR-V and other models. The recall spans 273,000 vehicles in the U.S., 27,000 in Canada, nearly 2,000 vehicles in Japan and another 2,000 elsewhere.

NORAD is the military organization responsible for the aerospace defense of the U.S. and Canada. The North American Aerospace Defense Command tracks Santa on Christmas Eve.

This year, it's counting down to Santa's takeoff with the NORAD Tracks Santa app, which is offering games like Elf Toss until the big moment. It is available on Apple products and Android, and social media sites.

The agency offers information by phone and online about St. Nick's location. Last year, it set a record with more than 7,000 emails and more than 80,000 calls, some of which were answered by U.S. first lady Michelle Obama via a hookup from Hawaii, where her family was vacationing.
