Welcome to the inaugural edition of Crappy Music Monday!

It's not that I'm a music snob. Well, OK, maybe a little. But I sincerely subscribe to the idea that music, like all art, is subjective. What I like, you may not like...and vice-versa.

And that's OK. That's really how it should be. It's what makes the world go round and what keeps Chad Kroeger employed:

Additionally, we all have our guilty pleasures. You may be a headbanger, gleefully cranking Pantera and Megadeth most hours of the day but when you hear “Rock Me Amadeus” by Falco...you can't help but throw some horns and shout “Und jede rief! Come and rock me Amadeus!!!”

It happens.

But, in this feature, we explore the inexplicable.

This weekly spotlight is not about highlighting some pop song that I find irritating (and you love). No, this is about scouring the web for the genuine WTF moments. These are musical installments that leave you wondering why the artists don't have better friends.

Friends that might gently say, “Um...dude...maybe you shouldn't put that on the internet” or “Look, you're an awesome pipe-fitter. The best in town. But music isn't really your thing.”

So, let's begin!

Let's start with one of my favorites.

Papa Daddy. This is “Pop The Paddle”:

Foremost, I don't know what it means to 'Pop The Paddle' but after watching this video I suspect that I might be missing out. I mean, the whole audience is singing along. And that hot redhead at the bar seems down.

Papa Daddy hail from Atlanta and their YouTube channel promises that “the revolution is about to begin”. They also proudly state that they are “Atlanta's most versatile band to ever come along”.  Right on.

The second single from their album makes the case.

“What'cha Doin' Up There?” is an introspective ballad by Papa. Too many people are dying. Sometimes even people he knows. He questions the Lord for calling home the wrong souls. “What'cha Doin' Up There?”, indeed.

In this video, however, we learn that Papa appears to have a heroic alcohol problem, apparently brought on by his grief. This is evidenced by the epic, angry guitar throw when his lady attempts to comfort him.

(Prior to her entrance, Papa was nearly unconscious thanks to a bottle of Crown. And, damn it all to hell, he wanted it that way).

Additionally, Papa pours booze on his taken brother's grave, kind of gangsta style and, by the end of the vid, he clearly can't really stand up straight.

But then, he hops on his hog and rides away.

The cameraman probably should have said something about that.

Anyway, while Papa Daddy belongs here in our feature, he seems like an amicable guy.  As evidenced by the band's FB page, they do charity fundraisers with the local motorcycle clubs and such.

Papa Daddy isn't hurting anybody after all (well, the drunk driving aside...but maybe we can assume that this was filmed before he drank that fifth).

He seems like an alright guy. And if he wants to make music in his spare time, that's cool.

So, for this edition of Crappy Music Monday, I say...”Yep. Crappy. But Rock on, Papa Daddy. I'll watch the next video.”

Look for next week's edition and have earplugs ready.
